Tax services
Stay compliant and tax-efficient, every filing season
Income tax, VAT, TIN, APIT and more, handled accurately and on time by advisors who keep up with every change to Sri Lankan tax law.
Sri Lankan tax rules change often, and missed deadlines bring penalties and interest. Whether you are a new company, a growing SME or an individual professional, we make sure you register correctly, file on time and pay no more tax than the law requires.
We work with the Inland Revenue Department systems on your behalf, and we explain every return in plain language so you always know where you stand.
Because our tax team works alongside our accountants, your returns are built on accurate, up-to-date books. That means fewer queries, fewer surprises and better planning.
Audit and tax services are provided by Amark Associates, Chartered Accountants, SMARTLedger’s sister firm under the same ownership and leadership. You get one point of contact and one team across registration, secretarial, tax and audit.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
When does my business need to register for VAT?
VAT registration becomes mandatory once your taxable supplies exceed the turnover threshold set by the Inland Revenue Department, and some businesses may register voluntarily. Thresholds and rates are revised from time to time, so talk to us and we will check your position against the current rules. You can also try our VAT calculator.
Do individuals need to file income tax returns?
Individuals whose income exceeds the tax-free threshold, including professionals, freelancers, landlords and business owners, are generally required to register and file an annual return. We can assess your situation and file for you.
What is a TIN and do I need one?
A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is your unique reference with the Inland Revenue Department. Companies, and many individuals, now need one to open bank accounts, register vehicles, import goods and file returns.
What is APIT?
Advance Personal Income Tax (APIT) is the tax employers deduct from employees’ salaries and pay to the IRD. Employers are responsible for deducting it correctly and paying it on time.
Can you help if I have missed tax deadlines?
Yes. We regularly help businesses catch up on late returns, regularise their position with the IRD and keep penalties as low as possible.
